The Story of a Photographer
Katie Truemner Bruessow is a native to the Greater Bay Area Region, now residing in Midland, MI. After attending Kendall College of Art and Design with a BFA in Illustration and focus in Furniture Design, Katie began her career in the “Furniture Capital of the World,” High Point, NC. Having a passion for architecture and design, the home furnishings industry was a perfect fit. She started her career as a furniture illustrator, rendering designs for presentations and aids in the making of furniture on a mass production scale. Katie’s craft as an illustrator and eye for design further developed landing her a position on the Sandra Espinet Design team, whose interior works can be seen worldwide, on HGTV, and through a published book, Barefoot Luxury. As a contract designer and artist, Katie has the ability to collaborate with several designers, creating beautiful pieces of home fashions from bedroom design, to accent pieces, artwork, and even rugs & lighting. She has had the honor of working on celebrity projects, high-end interior designer portfolios, and mass production items you may even see at your local furniture stores! Bassett Mirror Company (BMC) has recently over the past couple of years brought Katie on as one of their lead designers. She loves working on home accents because the possibilities are vast and creative. Inspiration is found everywhere you look! Katie leans towards a feminine approach finding inspiration in jewelry, women’s fashion, unique textures, and staying educated on trending concepts.
Katie and her family have moved all over the world, living in Singapore, the Carolinas, and the Midwest in the States. These adventures of travel are inspirational not only in her work, but how she views life. She finds different cultures & food fascinating, and design ideas can always be found while exploring. Painting has also been one of the centers of Katie’s passion in the arts. She has a loose style that is freeing to her in the creative process that often is reflective in her choice of subject- nature. Her pieces have been shown at The City Opera House in Traverse City and also exhibited at Creative 360 in Midland. With having a business mindset, Katie mass produces her works through Artists Guild of America. Another passion of Katie’s is community within the arts. She has been on the board of directors with Creative 360 and also enjoys teaching elementary students in a program called "Picture Parent." Katie loves spending time on the farm with their horse, Bonner, being a number one fan to her children and all of their sports, and watching movies as a family.
But it doesn't stop there... Katie if not a pencil in hand, you'll find a camera. She enjoys capturing families, horse families, and most importantly her own family doing what they love which is usually on a sports' field.
